Sony Ericsson K770i – Collaborations in Camera Phones!

Sony-Ericsson’s collaborations in camera phones didn’t quite invent the category with their original CyberShot designs, but they were one of the first innovators in the market segment. That tendency for innovation, a synergistic blend of two different design aesthetics. Ericsson, of course, is known for practical designs, and Sony is renowned for defining digital media experiences in small packages, dating back to the original Walkman tape cassette player.

The 3.2 megapixel camera is slightly beyond middle of the pack for camera phones; the Nokia N95 has a 5 megapixel one, and like all camera phones, the lack of dedicated optics keep it from being a true photographer’s camera. On the other hand, picture quality is quite good, and the color and saturation levels are more than good enough for the usual use for a camera mobile. It has some rudimentary picture editing capabilities in the device, and Sony Ericsson has done a good job of integrating camera viewing, file management, and sending pictures by the phone itself.

The picture viewing application is good, but not jawdroppingly so. The real virgin mobile prize here is that it’s a solid combination of camera, Sony Ericsson phone and music player that’s small enough to be shoved into a jeans pocket and run with.

The Sony Ericsson K770i is an evolutionary modification of their earlier CyberShot product line; rather than a revolutionary one. It doesn’t add anything as amazing as, say, an iPhone’s user interface, but then, it’s not meant to. It’s a solid “candy bar” format virgin mobile phone, only 14 mm thick; its buttons are large and well placed, and it has a 240×320 pixel screen that’s bright and good enough for showing off snapshots.

Two Great New Phones Packed With Features for Summer 2008

Sony Ericsson have confirmed the release of two new Cybershot mobiles, the C702 and C902, both of these have been in the rumour mill on the internet for a little while now – and seem to be attracting interest. They are quite similar in look and features, but with a couple of main differences. Both are typical Sony Ericsson styling, seen recently on the K850 and K770.

First the Sony Ericsson C702, a 3G candy bar style phone with 3.2 megapixel camera, MP3 player, FM radio and great bonus of GPS. This a great all round mobile, but really stands out by the addition of GPS on such a standard style phone. You usually have to go for a specialist heavier bigger mobile such as the Nokia N95 for the GPS feature.

The Sony Ericsson C902 has very similar features to the C702, but gets rid of the GPS and replaces it with a stunning 5 megapixel camera, making it more suited to snap happy mobile users. Again it is equipped with MP3 player and 3G and has eight handy touch sensitive buttons placed around the screen which come to life when the camera is activated.

Both phones are sure to be very popular, as with most Sony Ericsson phones they are highly recommended for their quality music players and camera quality. Expect the Sony Ericsson C702 and C902 to be released in summer 2008, prices are likely to be quite high, but hopefully they will be available for free on mid-range tariffs.

Sony Ericsson C905 is 8 Megapixel Camera Phone – Sony C905 UK

The first ever 8 megapixel Cybershot camera phone has now been launched on O2 in the UK, the new Sony Ericsson C905 is the manufacturers flagship model and offers the very latest in technology and features from the camera focussed Cybershot range.

The Sony C905 is to get some unwelcome company from competing manufacturers as the first batch of 8 megapixel camera phones are released onto the UK markets, in particular the LG KC910 Renoir and Samsung M8800 Pixon models.

The Sony Ericsson C905 Cybershot phone offers a groundbraking 8.1 mega pixel camera which is a genuine alternative to a digital camera. The camera includes top-end features including a Xenon flash, Auto focus face detection and  image stabiliser to name just a few. Users can make videos of their friends and family with the video recording feature. It even has a video stabiliser and a video light. When users have finished taking pictures and videos they can then upload them quickly to their blog for everyone to see.

The C905 has a Wi-Fi antenna and Sony is also bigging up its ability to automatically network with other components – such as a PlayStation 3, Bravia TV or Vaio laptop – using the DLNA standard. DLNA – or Digital Living Network Alliance – is a set of interoperability protocols designed to ensure various electronic devices can easily network with each other without complicated setting up or servers. Its backers include consumer electronics giants such as Sony, Philips and Toshiba as well as mobile phone companies like Nokia, LG, Motorola and – obviously- Sony Ericsson.

The media player comes with an FM Radio, TrackID, Album Art and Play Now, to make the music experience much smoother. The Sony Ericsson C905 also comes complete with a range of in-built games and is Java enabled so users can play games to their hearts content on those long commutes or nights in.

For the internet user the Sony C905 an Access NetFront Web Browser, WAP 1.2.1, WAP 2.0 XHTML and Web Feeds, so owners of this phone will never be without the internet. The Sony Ericsson C905 is a super-sleek looking phone that comes in a variety of colours; Night Black, Ice Silver and Copper Gold, the first of these being the black edition. A contemporary phone with all the features needed and more.

The C905 is the first Cyber-shot to be equipped with assisted GPS which is more responsive than the lugubrious GPS on the first Nokia N95 and the Sony Ericsson W760i. Like the recently released iPhone 3G, the Sony Ericsson C905 will also support the geo-tagging of photos out of the box.

All of this technology has been packed into a casing measuring just 104 x 49 x 18mm which is more than in-line with other models currently available and weighing in at 136g is also not too much for a phone of this stature.

There’s no doubting the design though, as the keypad, brushed lens cover and smooth, rounded edges of the casing all look sleek and in keeping with a high-end mobile.  The release of the C905 has not come soon enough, as this is one of the most exciting phones Sony Ericsson have launched for some time.

Although initially released on O2 pay monthly contract tariffs the C905 is expected to be picked up by further UK network operators and retailers over the next few days, the Sony C905 will also be made available as a SIM Free handset aswell as on the Pay As You Go payment scheme.
